Avaldsnes and Visnes are two locations
steeped in exciting historical lore, but each
at different ends of history’s time scale.
The historical roots of Avaldsnes stretch back
as far as 3000 years and involve chieftains, noblemen,
kings and power. Harald Hårfagre, who united
Norway as a kingdom, had his seat of power at
Avaldnes.
At Visnes, it is history from the 1800s that is
interesting. An industrial adventure, which has
been more or less a well-kept secret, is today
becoming recognised as a well-documented historical
era through the establishment of the Vigsnes Mining
Museum.
Welcome on a journey through our history.
